Pre-requisite : [F101] Offside : Whats the trap??? (the post below)

Some Exceptions to the rule :

The player is not offside even if he is ahead of the last defender in the following cases :

1. The player is NOT offside if he is behind the ball when the ball was played (even if he is ahead of the last defender.)

2. The player is NOT offside if he is in his own half when the ball was played.

3. The player is NOT offside from a throw-in.

4. The player is NOT offside if the ball was played/last touch was by an opponent player.

Well yes you have to remember the exceptions.

Once I can remember nistelrooy given offside from an throw in. When he explained the assistant that this was a throwin and he cant be offside the assistant ref maintained a straight face realising what a moron he had been but the decision stood. So sometimes refs can get it wrong but you should always remember if its a throw in the player is not offside.
